Square Bean Coffee is an independent specialty coffee micro-roastery based in Pershore, Worcestershire. We roast small batches of single origin and specialty-grade coffee and ship direct to your door within 36 hours of roasting — as fresh as it gets.

The story behind the beans

I'm Kevin, and my obsession with coffee goes back more than 30 years starting in South Africa — long before "specialty coffee" was part of anyone's vocabulary. Back then, finding genuinely great green beans was a mission in itself, but that only made it more rewarding.

That passion eventually led me to start my first micro-roastery, Beanissimo, where I roasted on a Dietrich 3kg Infrared machine. Life got in the way — a demanding career pulled my attention elsewhere — and I had to set the roasting drum aside for a while.

A year ago, I couldn't stay away any longer. I came back to roasting with a Bullet roaster, and Square Bean Coffee was born. More seasoned and caffeinated but no less obsessed.

A family business with deep roots

 

Square Bean is a family-run specialty coffee roastery, and coffee runs through both sides of it.

 

Lily's roots in coffee run deep. She grew up in Peru — one of South America's most important coffee-growing regions — where her father spent years working for an organisation that sent him into remote jungle communities to convince farmers to switch from coca to coffee. Not an easy conversation to have, and not a safe one either. It is a story that reminds us why ethical coffee sourcing isn't just a buzzword — and why we take it seriously.

More than just coffee

Away from the roastery, I love doing weightlifting — and the two passions are more connected than you might think. Coffee fuels the training, and the business helps fund it. Every bag you buy helps keep both going.

The dream is to grow Square Bean into something bigger: a larger roaster, access to even more exciting and rare single origin green coffees, and the ability to compete at the highest level in Masters weightlifting.
